Africa MANZI Center

In Zambia, “insaka” is a word in Bemba for “a place to gather” or a “village council,” traditionally a place for leaders to come together and discuss issues affecting their community.  Seeds of Hope has formed MANZI, Mentoring Africa through a Network of Zambian Insaka’s, to encourage the collaboration of leaders in development efforts for Zambia. The Africa MANZI Center (AFMAC) is a partnership between the Center for Affordable Water and Sanitation Technologies (CAWST) and Seeds of Hope International Partnerships to provide water expertise training to the southern region of Africa. The MANZI Center provides training in household water and sanitation and helps build the capacity of organizations in the southern region of Africa to meet their own local water, sanitation and hygiene needs.
The MANZI Center will provide leadership, training, technical consulting, educational resources and networking services to NGOs, government agencies and community groups in local water and sanitation sectors.

  • The Center will emphasize basic water awareness to create demand for solutions
  • Training will be taken to the people directly, and offered in villages and satellite centres close to where they live
  • The training programs are short and directed, minimizing the time that people must take from their income-generating activities
