Ann Campbell

In 1984, Mike Campbell drilled a well for an orphanage in Guatemala. His heart was touched by the need for sanitary water amongst the poor in developing countries. This took him to Africa and Belize with the hope that early retirement would allow him to drill in Central America. He was rebuilding a drill rig for this purpose when a fatal car accident took his life.

A memorial fund was established to continue the effort and the facilitation of the projects was handled by Mike’s wife, Ann Campbell. The hope was that with the help of Kevin Silva the torch could be “carried on.” Kevin had worked with Mike since he was eighteen and was like a son to Mike and Ann. He had previously spent a year drilling in Haiti with his family. But in May of 2002, Kevin was diagnosed with cancer and passed away in May of 2003.

The projects are now fueled by the memory and passion of both Mike and Kevin to help bring clean water to those who need it. Josh, Kevin’s son, stepped in to carry the torch for a time, and Ann also began looking for an organization that could put the drill rig to further use. Through a connection with the Boise Vineyard, Ann found out about Seeds of Hope International Partnerships. Ann was encouraged by SHIP’s vision for not only equipping locals to do the work but also moving from "just providing water" to seeing their lives changed in further ways, and in January 2007 Ann decided to donate the drill rig to Seeds of Hope.

The drill rig is an air/mud rotary truck mounted Cyclone rig. It is much larger than the rig Seeds of Hope is currently using in Zambia. We are now considering how to best utilize this Cyclone drill rig, whether the time is right to send it over to Zambia, or if it would be better used for drilling in Mexico. Either way, Seeds of Hope is very excited about our partnership with Ann, and the potential of this drill rig to bring clean water and touch many lives.
