JANUARY UPDATE

Flooding in Zambia
Seeds of Hope is working right now to help address a flooding crisis in Zambia. As a result of very heavy rains this year, many homes are collapsing in Chipulukusu, the community where SHIP does a lot of work. The news is reporting over 200 homes collapsed so far, and it is still early in the rainy season. The flooding is also causing latrines to overflow and contaminate the water table, leaving people without any safe water. SHIP is strategically placed to help address this crisis. We are working with community leaders to install 100 bio sand filters in the locations where they can be most used. Recipients of the filters are trained in their use as well as in hygiene. We are putting a roof over our facilities so we can continue sand filter production in the rain. Help SHIP address this crisis by sending funds specifically designated "flood relief." Pray for our crews that they would  be able to minister wisely and effectively in this time of need.

Cal Poly contacts
Several groups of students at Cal Poly University have been coming alongside Seeds of Hope to help with our work in Zambia. Professor Liz Schlemer connected SHIP with an engineering class focused on new product design who are now developing a compressed earth block builder which will be shipped to Zambia in our container.
On January 31st, we will be setting up the drill rig on Cal Poly’s campus for a SHIP fundraiser hosted by the SIFE club.
In March, Cal Poly’s alumni publication will be coming out with an article on Cal Poly’s participation in the work of Seeds of Hope. Below is a link to the web article:

Container news
We’re almost there! A shipping date for the container has been set for mid-February. We have been given two 175 cfm compressors that we will use in developing new wells and restoring broken ones. We will also be sending ten new Awassa pumps that have been built locally by Stillwater Foundation. In addition, we are hoping to have our first prototypes of the plastic sand filters ready to go. Funds have also come in for a device to sort sand and a plasma cutter. Praise God for all He is providing! We would still like to get a tractor and are still seeking local donations for office supplies and computers. Pray that we receive the rest of the funds needed for supplies and the shipping.

Partner Spotlight: Lifewater International

Seeds of Hope has been greatly blessed by our partnership with Lifewater International.
Lifewater works on water development in needy communities worldwide. They have been an incredible resource for SHIP in the areas of pump repair and hygiene training. Their curriculum and trainings have been key part of our success in establishing programs in these areas, and they have also provided funding for pump repair, drilling, and hygiene trainings. Lifewater’s faithful partnership with Seeds of Hope in Zambia has hugely benefited our work there. This year they are looking at sending several well-timed training trips to continue to help us in Zambia. Seeds of Hope is very thankful for Lifewater's faithful partnership in our ministry. Could this be how we move the container? http://www.youtube.com
We are consulting local cavemen about the possibilities.
